Tips On Making An Escape Room At Home
When you are stuck at home and are dying to play an escape room or your family needs a unique way to pass the time. Here are some tips and tricks from The Escape The Room Challenge design team to make a free and easy escape room in your own home.
Everyone has various locks just laying around. Grab an old briefcase, luggage, gym locks, or your home safe. Make sure you have permission before using any items. Use empty food containers or empty laundry detergent buckets to make great diversion hidden safes.
Make sure you write everything down. If you change any locks make sure your write down the original combination and the new combo. If you forget the combo you may have ruined that lock. Always check the owner’s manual before trying to change the combo of any lock.

After you have gathered all your items the next step is a story. Even though you are stuck at home you can make your story as wild as your imagination can handle. Bank Heist, Prison Break, Fairy Tale Palace, Magic Cave, Star Ship or even an Egyptian Tomb. Next print out some photos of what you imagine your home escape room would look like. This is your game don’t feel like you have to confine it to one room. Use the entire house, the garage and even expand out into your yard.
Make a timeline for your game. Decide if you want it to be a 30 or 60 120 mins. As are placing different puzzles and locks make sure you are writing down where you place the items and what the combination or solution is.
There are a couple different ways you can deliver clues. You can make up a poem for each puzzle and place it in different locations. If you have an old notebook or unused journal you hide clues in it. Grab an old walkie talkie to give hints throughout the game. You an even simply send a text message or a photo clue to their cell phone.
The most important thing to remember when making an escape room is to have fun!
